This was my first attempt at creating modern art. It turned out so well, that I used it as a trading piece to acquire a painting from another artist that I fell in love with.

Portrait of a Man is one of my favorite charcoal drawings as well as one of the most eagerly sought after. Origins of this piece come from an excerise during one of my drawing classes.

This painting has a unique story behind it. It was something I created while attending college. An art instructor challenged work on a project, modeled after some well know american painters. These painters sought to create pop art. Not in the sense we know it today, but by way of interviewing the common man to find out what he likes in a painting. For the next couple of days, I went around campus asking the same set of 10 questions to various students. Questions included, what is your favorite color, what is your favorite landscape, and what style of art he prefers. The above painting reflects a combination of the averaged results of the responses I recieved. Blue, green, trees, water, and surrealism were the most common answers.
